Fudge the cockapoo puppy from Richmond is officially famous.

Our video on the rescue of the eight-month-old puppy from the fast-moving River Thames has clocked up a staggering 90,000+ views online.

Most of these viewers watched on Twitter, where our tweet received more than 500 retweets, 4,000 likes and 120 comments - mostly praise for Yousef Al-Asfour's heroic rescue efforts.

Others remarked how great it was to see some positive news with a happy ending. "Nice to see a good news Saturday morning clip," Brian Solomon said.

"Fantastic. This has started my day well," the Gourmet Gays said.

While this story had a happy ending, the RNLI advised calling for help from the Coastguard if anyone sees an animal in trouble in the water.

"A good Samaritan stepped in here to save the day and we're relieved that this rescue ended well. If you see an animal in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We have 4 lifeboat stations on the River Thames and our crews there have performed many animal rescues," the organisation said.

The video and story was contributed by freelance journalist Rory Poulter - many thanks Rory for your superb work.
