The Barnes Community Association is once again hosting a Christmas lunch for Barnes elderly community.

The lunch is funded by a 'turkey run' that was hosted by The Barnes Runners on 3 December, which saw saw over 100 mostly fancily-dressed runners flock along the towpath to raise money for the lunch.

It will be taking place in the back room of The Coach and Horses Pub on Barnes High Street, for the second year and thirty five people are expected to be in attendance.

They will also be providing around fifteen takeaway meals for those unable to attend in person.

There will be a three course lunch, music, mince pies and a television where guests can watch The Kings Speech.

Nicola Urquhart, who works with BCA said: "Jay and Maria, who are the patrons of the pub cook the food themelves, they are there all day doing and then they have their Christmas in the evening with the publicans from the other pubs in Barnes.

"Their a very jolly couple and its lovely of them because we were struggling to put this lunch on at The Barnes Green Day Center and its so much nicer to have it in a pub."

She added: "We've got a high proportion of elderly people in Barnes and things like this help to make sure they can stay in the area for as long as possible."

This year, the BCA Christmas Day Lunch fund this year was also able to contribute to the RB Mind Barnes, Mortlake and East Sheen Carers Group Christmas Dinner which took place earlier this month.
