Urvashi Band bring their Spellbounding and mesmerising spiritual jazz to The Jazz Sanctuary!

Urvashi is a new London-based collective formed in January 2023, inspired by the bands interest in rave culture, Indian, Arabic and other forms of traditional music, alongside their common interest in jazz and fusion. They combine existing and original melodies with their own interpretations of different grooves and rhythms, building on this with extensive improvisation. For their debut EP, Urvashi experiment with the concept of musical structure, attempting to create a free and spacious platform of expression for each musician, whilst developing their own musical language with which to explore as a unit.

Inspired by traditional and modern musical cultures, drawing equally from Qawwali, Arabic Tarab, modal jazz and drum and bass, to create original songs alongside fresh interpretations.

The energetic rhythm section forms a bed on which melodies are carried usually by the sax, flute, and guitar, with these roles often switching to bring different sounds to the forefront.
