Introduction To Steeking

Push your knitting boundaries a little with this workshop on steeking! Traditionally used in Fair Isle and nordic countries, steeking allows you to knit a pattern in the round, then create an opening by cutting through the yarn (yes, we know it sounds scary, but it won't be – honest!).

Suzanne Strachan, expert knitting teacher and knitwear designer, will teach you methods for securing stitches before cutting fabric knitted in the round, in order to create, for example, armholes, necklines and frontal openings of cardigans.

You will need to prepare and bring with you a sample of circular stranded knitting based on a pattern which will be provided to you in advance.

This workshop is suitable for people with an intermediate level of knitting and attendees need bring their knitted sample, yarn and needles used for the sample, a crochet hook of the same size as the knitting needles, a tapestry needle and scissors.

As always, we'll give you tea and coffee to help the learning process!

"never concentrated so much on a Saturday morning! Really enjoyable – thank you"
