Residents in Richmond Hill have been told water supplies are now being restored after a burst main caused days of disruption, flooding and road damage in the area.

Thames Water confirmed in an update at 7.36am this morning (Wednesday, 6 May) that repairs to the damaged pipe have now been successfully completed.

The utility company said customers should now have their water supply back, although pressure may initially be lower while the network stabilises.

Residents have also been warned that water may appear discoloured when it first returns, which is described as normal following this type of incident.

Despite the repair being completed, Thames Water teams are expected to remain on site while road reinstatement works are carried out, with closures likely to continue while the area is made safe.

The update follows several days of work after the pipe burst on Sunday evening (3 May), leading to flooding and significant damage in the Richmond Hill area.

At the height of the incident, London Fire Brigade deployed six fire engines and around 40 firefighters to the scene, using sandbags and flood barriers to protect nearby homes. Multiple sinkholes were also reported.

Throughout Tuesday, Thames Water engineers worked to complete the repair after specialist fittings were delivered to site, using tankers to maintain water supply and delivering bottled water to vulnerable residents.

While most customers had some supply restored before the fix was completed, some experienced low pressure or intermittent outages, particularly during peak demand.

The road has suffered extensive damage and will require further work in the coming days, with motorists still advised to allow extra time when travelling through the area.

Thames Water has apologised for the disruption and thanked residents for their patience while the issue was resolved.
