Richmond Hill homes continue to be affected by flooding as repairs continue
By Cesar Medina 5th May 2026
Residents in Richmond Hill are continuing to face disruption after a burst water main caused flooding, road damage and supply issues in the area.
Thames Water said some properties in the TW10 area are still experiencing no water or low pressure as repair work continues.
In the latest update at 11.35am today (Tuesday, 5 May), the utility said engineers are exploring whether a temporary fix can restore supplies sooner while preparations are made for a full repair. If that is not possible, a specialist part may need to be brought to site later in the day.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Thames Water confirmed repair work had begun, with materials already on site and bottled water continuing to be delivered to affected residents.
Teams worked through Monday evening installing trench supports to allow safe access to the damaged pipe, with the repair expected to involve cutting out and replacing the broken section.
The incident began on Sunday evening (3 May), when a major burst water main led to flooding and significant damage to the road.
London Fire Brigade said six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to the scene following reports of a 14-inch water main rupture.
Crews from Richmond, Kingston, Twickenham and Heston attended, using around 50 sandbags and installing flood barriers to divert water away from nearby homes.
The brigade said the burst main also caused multiple sinkholes in the area. Firefighters were first called at 10.04pm, with the incident brought under control by 1.46am.
While the flow of water has now been stopped, Thames Water has warned that customers may continue to experience low or fluctuating pressure until repairs are fully complete.
Water tankers remain in place to help support the network, and bottled water is being prioritised for vulnerable residents.
The damage to the road is described as significant, with closures expected to remain in place for several days while repairs and clean-up operations continue.
Residents directly affected by flooding are being urged to contact Thames Water for support, while motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys through the area.
