The Museum of Richmond has an exciting array of events planned this month.
Following their closure last week, whilst the new lift was installed the museum has plenty going on for the rest of October, however, the work is still taking place so guests will need to use the stairs.
An Evening with Zandra Rhodes:
On Monday the 30th October, the museum will be hosting an evening and book signing with Zandra Rhodes, at Duke Street Church.
Dame Zandra Rhodes has been a notorious figurehead of the UK fashion industry for five decades and in this talk, she will explore how she has been painting the world with her unapologetically colourful creations since the 1960s, past and future collaborations, and The Zandra Rhodes Foundation.
Book your tickets here.
Coffee and Crafting Workshops:
The museum is also hosting an afternoon of crafts on Wednesday 18 October.
This event will focus on blackwork embroidery, inspired by mourning wear and ghost stories from Richmond Palace!
There are limited tickets left for this event so email [email protected] to book.
Curator's Tours:
The theme of October's curator's tours is ghosts, magic and murder.
You can join the museum team and discover more of the secrets and stories behind the museum's collection.
Tours are every Thursday at 2pm and last twenty to thirty minutes.
Artificial Silk: From Kew to the World:
This exhibition focuses on a little-known local scientific invention with a huge global impact: the development of artificial silk.
Invented in Kew in the early 1900s, viscose rayon is a soft, silky textile made from wood pulp which is still one of the most widely produced fibers in the world today.
Half term:
The museum is also running a few events for families over half term, including free trails and free craft activities.
The spooky pumpkin craft activities are available from 1pm each weekday and Saturday the Museum is open.
Everything you need will be set out for you, including instruction sheets and materials.
From Tuesday 24 to Friday 27 October, the museum will be running a Ghosts of Richmond Palace workshop.
Guests will be able to go on a ghost walk around the Palace's remains and then head back to the Museum to create your own haunted Palace to take home!
