Nub News wins place on Richmond's own version of much-loved Monopoly board game
Nub News features in a new Richmond edition of Monopoly, which has been a part of national life and Christmas gatherings for generations.
The Richmond version of the game, which features many local landmarks, also celebrates a number of local charity and community groups.
The decision to include Nub News and the other groups was mainly based on recommendations from local residents.
It recognises that Nub News has quickly become a respected and reliable provider of news and comment across the entire borough with thousands of people viewing our website and weekly newsletters.
In the game, both the squares and cards take on a Richmond flavour and feel.
Out go the classic names like Mayfair and Park Lane and in come local landmarks, such as Ham House, the view from Richmond Hill terrace, Richmond Theatre, Strawberry Hill House, Church Street in Twickenham, Kew Gardens, Teddington High Street and the Richmond and Bushy Royal Parks.
The charities recognised on the board for playing a crucial part in the local community include -
- The Vineyard Community Centre, which incorporates the Richmond Foodbank and Works of Love.
- Ruils, which supports disabled children and adults; as well as older people and other with mental health conditions to live independently at home and in their community.
- SPEAR London, which offers services and support to thousands of homeless and vulnerable people in south west London.
- The People Hive, based in Heath Road, Twickenham, which sells locally sourced artisan goods with the proceeds supporting a charity for adults with learning disabilities.
- ARC - Animal Rescue & Care - who find loving homes for the many unwanted and neglected animals.
Bosses at Winning Moves UK, who are producing the game under license from Hasbro, said the game allows players to 'explore the charming borough of Richmond upon Thames and discover some of its most remarkable properties'.
A spokesman said: "Historic houses, stunning gardens and cultural landmarks are all included.
"Go to a rugby match then walk along Twickenham Church Street for some shopping and a spot of lunch.
"Take in Turner's View and see the sights at Eel Pie Island before photographing the local deer in some of the world's most beautiful parks.
"Visit Ham House, watch the Great River Race, and grab a Chance or Community Chest card for a prize or penalty - will you win the Richmond Running Festival, tour Twickenham Stadium, or end up in Jail for littering?"
Chief executive and co-founder of Nub News, Karl Hancock, said: "We are delighted that the Nub News family has been recognised in this way and will be represented on this Richmond Monopoly board.
"We aim to put your town in your pocket and our first principle is to make sure that our content remains truly local."
The board game is available from various retailers for £24.99-£29.99, including Waterstones.
Cllr Geoff Acton, Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, said: 'It was a borough-wide effort to vote on the local landmarks and charities that feature on our very own Monopoly board.
"Our borough has so much to offer and I'm looking forward to seeing this represented on the Monopoly board."
