Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator praises police for swift action to remove travellers from Richmond Green

The local Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator has praised the police for their work after travellers set up camp on Richmond Green.
A group of travellers, set up camp on Richmond Green last week and were swiftly moved on by police after one male was arrested.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "On the 14th September 2023, shortly after 6pm, all the travellers decided to leave after a male was arrested for Dangerous Driving having been doing hand brake turns on the Green, and crashing into one of their own caravans."
"This resulted in a short foot chase and arrest. All caravans have now left, 2 have been abandoned along with a vehicle – a clean up crew attended the area at 5am on the 16thSeptember."
Locals reported seeing a man driving dangerously around the green.
Beverley Picton, South Richmond Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator said: "People were very very appreciative of the police action and the fact that the green was cleared promptly and without the need for lengthy court proceedings.
"From our perspective, the police were right on it with communication, I had prompt emails and updates on what they were doing and we were very pleased that the police kept in touch with the local community so closely and that the travellers were gone within 23 hours."
Some comments from the South Richmond Neighbourhood Watch members, that Beverley shared with Richmond Nub News, include:
"Our police team are amazing, they have had one horrendous week with the escaped prisoner, Saturday night in town and now this! They deserve a mighty applause."
Other members of the group praised the police for good communication with the community and their hard work.
