An independent pizzeria chain has made the decision to shut its Richmond branch after an ongoing dispute with the landlord over repairs.

Base Face Pizza on 112 Kew Road announced that it was "the end of the road" for the eatery following six months of attempting to get the landlord to fix a drainage issue in the restaurant's basement, causing mould and attracting flies.

In a video posted to social media, founder Tim Thornton, said: "We have been unable to come to an agreement with the landlord to get it back in working condition.

"It's been an insanely stressful six months as I'm sure you can imagine."

Thornton added: "It's the end of the road for Richmond, we tried, we fought, we lawyered up, but unfortunately no chance of getting the doors open again for us.

"Thank you so much to all who supported us there and so sorry not to be able to bring you any more pizzas in Richmond, but Barnes and Putney are super close and we'd love your continued support if you have the time to make the trip to us there!"

In March of this year, Base Face first made the decision to temporarily close its Richmond site after finding water coming out of the flooring and walls of the basement.

Base Face claimed that after having experts in they discovered a sink in its basement had not been properly connected to the sewage system and was building up underneath the flooring.

According to the company the landlord refused to repair the issue.

The pizza restaurant opened in Richmond back in June 2025, adding to two other branches in Putney and Barnes.

The landlord has been approached for comment.
