REVIEW: Base Face Pizza Brings slow dough and flavour to Richmond

Independent pizza chain Base Face Pizza has officially extended its reach in south west London with the opening of its new Kew Road branch last week.
Taking over the former Atlas Organic grocery store, the pizzeria now stands out with its forest green exterior and the motto: "Neighbourhood Pizzeria, Local Ingredients, Slow Dough."
During my visit, I opted to go big and tried the signature 18' Base Face Pizza, the namesake dish of the restaurant.

Topped with fresh buffalo mozzarella, rocket, parmesan, tomato, basil and a drizzle of garlic oil, the pizza was full of flavour.
The dough was cooked to perfection - not too crunchy, not too chewy – with just the right amount of bite.
Base Face's tomato sauce was rich and slightly sweet, perfectly complementing the creamy and mildly salty mozzarella.
To top it all off the pizza is covered in fresh rocket and drenched in delicious garlic oil.
I love my greens and my rocket but I think Base Face were too generous with the leaf for my liking as I had some rocket going airborne (no pun intended) during each bite.

To wash down the pizza, I ordered a Sugar Free Cola from microbrewery Steep Soda Co. Imagine a slightly less fizzy, little gingery Pepsi Max.
Base Face Pizza's drinks list consists of local suppliers and independent brands which is a nice change from your typical pizzerias.
As for prices, I enjoyed Base Face Richmond's 50% off opening week offer so I ate the 18' Base Face Pizza for only £17.
Depending on size and toppings, Base Face sells pizzas for as little as £9 and as much as £34.

Overall, the restaurant's words plastered on each of its branch's windows sum up pretty well what Base Face is about, something founder Tim Thornton told me is what he is "trying to achieve."
Base Face Richmond is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 12pm to 9:30pm, and closed on Mondays.
