Charge your electric vehicle for free in Richmond this Clean Air Day

For one day only Richmond drivers with an electric vehicle will be able to charge their car for free.

Clean Air Day (Thursday, October 8) is the UK's largest air pollution campaign.

It aims to improve public understanding of air pollution, how it affects our health and what we can do to tackle it, helping to protect the environment and our health.

Richmond Council says providing an emission-free solution to transport is one of its priorities.

Earlier this month, to mark the global celebration of 'e-mobility' World EV Day, electric vehicles drivers were treated to the same perk.

Ownership of electric vehicles in Richmond is increasing rapidly, leading to more and more requests for charging points.

The borough currently has around 200 on-street chargers fitted to lampposts, in partnership with Siemens and leading EV (electric vehicle) charging provider Ubitricity.

On October 8 Ubitricity is giving electric vehicle drivers a free charge - as it did earlier in September to mark World EV Day.

Any car plugged in to a public Ubitricity charging station in the borough between a minute past midnight and 11.59pm will receive their charge session at no cost.

Cllr Alexander Ehmann is chair of the council's Transport and Air Quality Committee.

He said: "We need to accelerate the electrification of transport by encouraging more people to exchange their polluting vehicles for EVs.

"We have well over 200 charging points available across the borough already, with more installations planned later this year.

"Hopefully this promotion will encourage even more people to go 'electric', they are becoming cheaper to buy and run, more convenient to charge and use, and most importantly they are better for the environment and air quality."
