Richmond Police has enforced a new dispersal order in the town centre and riverside.

It gives officers extra powers to move on unruly individuals and crowds of people.

On weekends, bank holidays and in sunny weather Richmond has been a recent flashpoint for unruly and even violent behaviour.

A week ago amid 24C heat on Tuesday, March 30, the riverside was "trashed" with litter and a person was injured after being hit by a glass bottle. On Friday police found young people throwing fireworks.

Police said: "A dispersal order has been authorised in Richmond town centre and Richmond Riverside after reports of violence, anti-social behaviour and a knife recovered over the bank holiday weekend.

"The dispersal is authorised until 8.30pm on 06/04/2021."
