Fireworks were thrown by young people amid reports of late night disorder in Richmond.

Security and intelligence firm KSS said it had been notified of "groups armed with knives" in the town centre. "Police are on scene with dogs and more police resources arriving," they said shortly before 10pm on Friday, April 2.

The post was shared by Twitter account London & UK Crime to its 82,000 followers, sparking concern among a number of Richmond residents.

Richmond Police confirmed officers were called over reported anti-social behaviour and added that the knife pictured below was "found discarded".

A dispersal order, giving police extra powers to move on unruly individuals and crowds of people, has been activated and it will run until 8.30pm this evening (Sunday, April 4).

A spokesperson told Richmond Nub News: "Police were called to a large gathering of youths breaching Covid regulations and displaying anti-social behaviour.

"Upon police arrival the anti-social behaviour was continuing which included the throwing of fireworks. The group of youths began to be dispersed.

"To assist this a Section 35 Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 [dispersal order] was put in place until 20:30hrs on 04/04/21 for the local area."

Earlier this week, a person was injured after being struck by a bottle on Richmond Riverside and police are investigating the incident as an assault.
