Young Writers Festival: talented pupils encouraged to enter

By The Editor 30th Oct 2020

An arts charity has invited Richmond children to showcase their writing talents.

Art Richmond's Young Writers' competition is open to all Richmond pupils.

Students are invited to submit a typed piece of writing of any form on any subject – from narrative to descriptive – of no more than 500 words, or poems of no more at 25 lines.

Pieces can be both standalone and extracts of longer work.

Submissions will be judged in four categories ranging from Year 4 and under to Year 10 and over.

Authors of shortlisted entries will then be invited to a gala awards event at a prestigious venue in Spring 2021.

Prizes will be awarded to winners in each age group.

The competition was a big success last year, with some 400 participants from more than 20 schools.

About Arts Richmond

Arts Richmond is an independent charity affiliated with over 140 other societies.

Their aim is "to promote arts activities within the borough" and to encourage the accessibility of events to all members of the community.

How to enter

The competition has been running since August 24 and will close on December 4.

Entrants may write about any subject of their choice, in any format (for example, a poem, story, play script, news item) not exceeding 500 words or 25 lines for a poem. Extracts from longer pieces will be accepted.

Email them to [email protected] with your full name, address, telephone number, email, date of birth, school year, and school or club you are attending in a covering letter/email or form provided by your school. This information must be included separately and not on the entry itself.

You can also post your entry to: Arts Richmond Young Writers Festival, ETNA Community Centre Room 21, 13 Rosslyn Road, Twickenham, TW1 2AR.
