Until April 29 - An Inspector Calls

Stephen Daldry's multi award-winning National Theatre production of JB Priestley's classic thriller returns.

Written at the end of the Second World War and set before the First, An Inspector Calls is a compelling and haunting thriller. The story begins when Inspector Goole arrives unexpectedly at the prosperous Birling family home. Their peaceful dinner party is shattered by his investigations into the death of a young woman. His startling revelations shake the very foundations of their lives and challenge us all to examine our consciences. More relevant now than ever, this is a must-see for a whole new generation.

Since 1992, Daldry's production of An Inspector Calls has won a total of 19 major awards, including four Tony Awards and three Olivier Awards, and has played to more than 5 million theatregoers worldwide. An Inspector Calls is the most internationally-lauded production in the National Theatre's history.

May 2-6 - The Beekeeper of Aleppo

May 2-6 - The Beekeeper of Aleppo

Moving, powerful, compassionate and beautifully written, The Beekeeper of Aleppo is a testament to the triumph of the human spirit.

Told with deceptive simplicity, it is the kind of book that reminds us of the power of storytelling.

The Beekeeper of Aleppo is an intimate look at the lives of one couple, Afra, a woman and artist blinded by an explosion, and her beekeeper husband Nuri as the couple escape Syria for, eventually, the UK.

April 29 – June 17 – The Circle by Somerset Maugham

April 29 – June 17 – The Circle by Somerset Maugham

Jane Asher plays Lady Kitty, a society beauty who notoriously abandoned her stuffy husband Clive (Clive Francis) and eloped with the handsome Lord Porteous (Nicholas Le Prevost).

Thirty years later, love's young dream has descended into non-stop squabbling.

Meanwhile, Clive and Lady Kitty's son Arnold (Pete Ashmore) faces the same marital fate, as his wife Elizabeth (Olivia Vinall) threatens to elope with the dashing Teddie Luton (Chirag Benedict Lobo).

Will history come full circle? Or can one generation learn from their parents' disastrous mistakes?

Somerset Maugham's sparky comedy of manners was first staged in 1921 and has remained a firm favourite with audiences ever since.

Thursday, April 27 - Take Desires Away

A solo performance adapted from the poems and letters of A.E. Housman, the classics scholar, whose self-published 1896 poem cycle 'A Shropshire Lad' became a publishing phenomenon and connected deeply with thousands of young men.

Take Desire Away brings a clear, queer eye to Housman's words – both his wistful poems and very funny letters – and discovers the yearning and passion burning beneath them.

Tuesday, May 2 - OSO True Stories: Emily Chappell

The inspirational adventurer and endurance cyclist Emily Chappell joins us to discuss her acclaimed books and remarkable life story.

Emily Chappell was not sporty at school, but when she reached her mid-20s, she gave up her office job and began to make up for lost time. After first working as a London cycle courier, she went a step further: in 2016, she cycled 4000km in 13 days, from Belgium to Turkey, to become the first woman home in the Transcontinental Race. Her account of the experience, 'Where There's a Will', part-travelogue, part-open-hearted memoir, was nominated at the 2020 Daily Telegraph Sports Books of the Year awards.
