Richmond is on thunderstorms alert with a weather warning in place for the next five days.

According to the latest forecast, 'thundery showers' are possible today from 2pm today (Wednesday, August 13) until 9am tomorrow.

Rain is also more likely than not to fall from 3pm today onwards.

Temperatures are beginning to drop off and will hit a high of 25C tomorrow and 23C on Saturday.

Yesterday a huge hail storm brought down giant hail stones across the town.

The Met Office has issued a series of weather warnings for thunderstorms.

Today's warning

Some places are likely to see severe thunderstorms during Thursday, but with significant uncertainty in location and timing.

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life

The warnings lasts until 6am on Saturday, August 15.

The next Met Office warning then kicks in at the stroke of midnight on Sunday, August 16 and it will remain active until 9pm on Monday, August 17.

"Further heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected at times and may lead to some flooding or travel disruption," the forecaster said.
