Firefighters closed a road and led the response after two large branches snapped off a tree and fell on a parked car in Twickenham.

Fortunately, no one was in the vehicle at the time and there were no reports of any injuries.

It happened yesterday (Wednesday, August 12) on Holly Road as a ferocious hail storm swept over the town and Richmond.

Temporary Sub Officer Adam Cook, who was at the scene, said: "There had been a very localised storm in the area and two very large branches had come down and landed on a parked car and the rest of the tree was in a precarious position.

"There was actually minimal damage considering how bad it could have been. It's very fortunate that the car's owner wasn't in the vehicle at the time.

"We made the scene safe and worked with partner agencies to close the road and request a council tree surgeon to attend."

The brigade was called at 4.41pm and firefighters left the scene at 7.14pm.

One fire engine from Twickenham Fire Station attended.

Emergency services were needed for an incident on nearby Laurel Avenue as a man was taken to a major trauma centre after a fall.
