Three-vehicle collision sets car on fire in St Margarets

A car was destroyed by fire after a collision involving two other vehicles in St Margarets.

The incident happened on St Margarets Road shortly after 8am yesterday (Monday, September 21).

A black Hyundai i20 came off worst from the collision. Its front engine had melted and appeared to have burnt the road itself.

Emergency service crews from the police, fire and ambulance services attended the scene.

Police officers remained on site until the late morning and were directing traffic.

London Fire and Ambulance Service said a woman was treated at the scene, but appears to have escaped unhurt.

A witness appeal was not issued.

A police spokesperson said: "On Monday, September 21 at 08:34 hours, police arrived on scene to a road traffic collision on St Margarets Road in Twickenham.

"The collision involved three vehicles, one of which was on fire.

"The London Ambulance service and London Fire Brigade were also in attendance.

"The roads were closed by police, and after the fire was extinguished, the vehicle was recovered by Richmond Council. The roads are now open again.

"This was a damage only collision and no injuries were sustained."

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision and reports of a car alight on St Margarets Road in Twickenham.

"Three cars were in collision and one car was destroyed by fire. One woman was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

"The Brigade was called at 0814 and the incident was over for firefighters by 0836. Fire crews from Heston Fire Station attended the scene."
