UPDATE: Official opening date for new Lidl supermarket announced

This artistic impression is what East Twickenham's new Lidl will look like when it opens this autumn.

The supermarket giant gave Richmond Nub News an insight into its vision for the new store.

The first and second floors above Lidl will be occupied by Outstanding-rated Deer Park School, which is relocating from opposite Old Deer Park for the 2020/21 academic year.

A spokesman for Lidl told us: "Building work on the new store in Richmond Road is well underway and is set to open this autumn.

"The new build details a 1,123m² store on the 3,356m² site, with plans to create up to 40 new jobs.

"The supermarket will boast state of the art facilities including an in-store bakery, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

"The upper floors of the supermarket will accommodate a two-form entry primary school, Deer Park.

"We look forward to sharing more information with the local community in due course."

All about Deer Park School

This two-form entry primary school will have eight classrooms on the first floor and six classrooms on the second.

When the school is at capacity in 2024, it will have places for 420 students and 55 full and part-time staff members.

There will be a large dining hall, dedicated library and a specialist classroom for design and technology.

In addition to the on-site playground Deer Park plans to make a number of arrangements for offsite sporting activities.

The MUGA (multi use games area) will support the provision of games such as football, netball, basketball and hockey on site.

There will be outdoor learning spaces provided at the second floor and the reception classes will have a covered canopy.

Parents collecting and dropping off children will be encouraged to do so at first floor in the games area to prevent congestion on the public footpath.
