Richmond Palace (now destroyed) has ghosts of its own.

It was here that Queen Elizabeth I died on March 24, 1603. Richmond Palace had always been her favourite residence and she would spend hours strolling in the Green or riding her horses in the park.

But as she got older, she had to stay indoors and was confined to her wardrobe (actually an entire building).

She would still walk the corridors but one day she collapsed and had to be carried to her bed.

A lady in waiting came running to the aid of her mistress but as she entered the wardrobe she saw the Queen striding towards her!

This figure was healthy and young, wearing the Queen's most beautiful dress.

Baffled, the lady-in-waiting continued on her journey to the Queen's bedroom and found her mistress had died moments earlier! Who was the ghostly figure that appeared before the lady-in-waiting?

Well, there have been sightings of a ghostly figure standing outside the remains of Richmond Palace in the early morning on the anniversary of the Queen's death.

The ghostly figure is likely to have been the Queen's spirit, leaving her body at the moment of her death.

Logically, the Queen's spirit should have moved on when the palace was destroyed.

But the only surviving part of the palace is the wardrobe... coincidence?
