Did you know Richmond has a spooky side?

It seems only fitting that in the run up to Halloween we let you know some of the mysterious happenings around the borough.

Today we are highlighting the very haunted Ham House.

Specifically, the ghost of Elizabeth, Duchess of Lauderdale who is shown on the front cover of this booklet.

In the 17th century, the ambitious and tenacious Duchess lived in Ham House. By the end of her life, the Duchess was confined to a singular room downstairs.

Not only is there a presence in the room, but visitors and staff have also reported the Duchess appearing in the reflection of a mirror in her room.

But don't worry!

If you say Good afternoon your ladyship before you enter the room, then you should be safe from her ghost. That is... unless you feel a ghostly force trying to push you down the stairs.

It has been known to happen to visitors and means the ghost of the Duchess has really got it in for you, so watch out!

Find out more about the fascinating history of Richmond by booking a slot to visit the Museum of Richmond.
