The Thames Barrier will be in operation today from around 12pm following some extremely high tides along the river over the last week.

Over the weekend, local people shared photos of the high tide in Twickenham, with CaptainQuack sharing that the Thames Path at Ham House was completely submerged.

A tweet from environment agency worker Alan said: "The Barrier will be closing at around 12.00 today due to the forecast a high tide combining with high river flows creating a threat of tidal flooding in central and west London."

"Barriers at Barking and Dartford will also close."

The Thames Barrier is one of the largest movable flood barriers in the world and is controlled by the Environment Agency.
