Scooter robbery suspect 'rode straight into us'

A special constable arrested a suspected scooter robber in Richmond on his first shift in the role.

S/Inspector Mo Soliman said at 9.30pm on Saturday, June 27: "Not as many people out today.

"But an arrest for robbery of a scooter by SC Mahoney on his first shift as an SC (was a PC before).

"Male rode literally straight into us."

This incident aside, Saturday night appeared to pass by without major drama, or anything like the crime and anti-social behaviour seen last weekend.

South Richmond Police said moments before the suspected robbery: "All very quiet on our ward at the moment.

"Patrols continuing through the night. #WhereHasEveryoneGone?"

It appears likely that a combination of the 48-hour dispersal zone covering much of Richmond town centre and greyer weather meant there were far fewer people on the streets last night.

Anja (@ankasi78 on Twitter) put it down to: "Rain earlier and no tube this weekend, but the evening's not over yet. Wouldn't be surprised if it kicked off later."

Offensive weapon seized

More arrests were made on Friday, however.

South Richmond Police tweeted this photo and wrote: "Thank you to all our partners and colleagues.

"We managed to take off the streets the below 'Offensive Weapon'.

"The male is currently awaiting a decision by the Crown Prosecution Service."

And on Thursday at 9.35pm the force wrote: "Lots of patrols being carried across the ward.

"Two males have been arrested so far.

"One for 'possession of an offensive weapon' and another for false imprisonment & assault'."
