Richmond's Covid-19 infection rate has fallen considerably in recent days, latest figures show.

On January 8 our borough had a rate of 542 new cases per 100,000 people in the population after recording more than 1,000 positive tests in a week.

New figures up to January 18 - just ten days later - show that our infection rate has fallen to 326 cases per 100,000 people, with 400 fewer positive tests recorded.

It means Richmond is still the London borough with the lowest infection rate and is a positive trend that was welcomed on Friday by Richmond Council leader Gareth Roberts, who said it shows that lockdown is working.

Official figures plotted on an interactive map show some central parts of the borough - including Richmond Central, Queen's Road, Richmond Park, Petersham and Kew Gardens - have an infection rate of less than 200.

The sharp reduction in cases is being seen across London, as the graph below shows.

Let's hope they continue to fall.
