Covid in Richmond: 11 deaths and 7,540 tests in week as cases fall
The leader of Richmond Council has given an update on the borough's response to Covid-19.
Cllr Gareth Roberts said 11 people died in the past week within 28 days of testing positive for the virus.
Testing levels continue to increase, with 7,540 tests conducted over the past seven days. He said there were 585 positive tests within this period, which is a reduction.
"The rate of infection in the borough is falling; we can see this from the figures and that shows that lockdown is working," Mr Roberts said.
"But we can't drop our guard. We must remain vigilant at all times. And this means changing our pattern of behaviour on a day-to-day basis.
"We've seen over the last few days that there has been an increased number of people using our children's play areas for example, so if you can avoid using the children's play areas in our parks that would be appreciated because it will free up space for those people who don't have gardens or play equipment at home that they can use."
