A massive new development with 1,250 new homes in Mortlake is going to be re-consulted on yet again to assess the impact of the closure of Hammersmith Bridge.

Plans for the former Stag Brewery site were given planning permission by Richmond Council in January 2020.

It was then called in by the Mayor of London because of its low level of affordable housing, which stood at just 17 per cent.

This has since increased to up to 30 per cent, as has the total number of homes.

The Mayor was due to make a decision on the amended scheme on November 26 after a consulation over the summer and a re-consultation in October.

But this was postponed to give residents the opportunity to offer feedback on technical notes from the applicant about the impact of:

• Hammersmith Bridge's closure
• the applicant's response to issues raised during previous consultations
• a summary of traffic modelling findings and road improvement plans.

Another re-consultation has opened to feedback on these notes and will run until March 8.

Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney has called on her constituents to take part.

She said: "This is a sensible decision by GLA. It's long been clear that Hammersmith Bridge will, regrettably, be closed for the foreseeable future.

"It would therefore be a mistake to assume its availability as an access point for the proposed development, as was initially the case.

"I'm grateful that GLA has postponed the hearing and given the applicant time to look into how this will impact local traffic.

"For now, I would urge as many people as possible to engage in the consultation and make their voices heard."

She added: "Many have, understandably, expressed serious concerns about the impact that the development will have on Mortlake's existing traffic congestion.

"This is their opportunity to put forward their case and I hope they capitalise on it."
