Mayor to unveil new Richmond mural this month
By Cesar Medina 7th Jul 2026
A new public artwork celebrating Richmond's heritage, wildlife and community will be officially unveiled next week.
The large-scale mural at 20 Hill Street has been commissioned by Be Richmond and will be officially revealed at 10am on Tuesday, 14 July, with the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, the Leader of Richmond Council and local councillors attending the ceremony.
Created by London-based artists Alice and Katie of A&K Art, the mural transforms one of Richmond's busiest pedestrian routes with a contemporary celebration of the people, places and landscapes that make the riverside town unique.
The artwork features many of Richmond's best-known landmarks and local icons, including Richmond Bridge, Richmond Theatre, the famous Richmond Hill view, Bushy Park, a traditional London black cab, the iconic red post box, herons from Corporation Island and a kingfisher. It also includes a tribute to former local resident Ann Wilkinson.
The project forms part of Be Richmond's wider programme of public realm improvements aimed at enhancing the town centre and reinforcing Richmond's identity as one of London's most distinctive destinations.
Fay Cannings, Chief Executive of Be Richmond, said: "Richmond has an extraordinary story to tell and this mural celebrates many of the landmarks, landscapes and memories that make the town so special.
"It is much more than a piece of public art. It creates a welcoming new focal point for residents and visitors while reinforcing Richmond's unique sense of place.
"We are delighted the Mayor and civic leaders are joining us to mark what is an important moment for Richmond town centre."
Artists Alice and Katie, who both grew up in the London Borough of Richmond, said the commission was particularly meaningful because of their personal connection to the area.
They said: "Having such a personal connection to the area made this a very special commission.
"We wanted the mural to celebrate both Richmond's famous landmarks and some of the smaller details that local people know and love."
