Residents worries about soaring energy bills are being offered help and advice this morning on how to make savings and stay warm.

An Energy Café is being held this morning at Whitton Community Centre where experts from Habitats & Heritage, CREW and Richmond Council will be on hand to answer questions.

Later today, an online event will offer information to residents on how to cut the cost of insulating your home through government retrofitting schemes.

The events are among a series being held across the borough week to run alongside the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow.

Also at 3pm today, residents will get the chance to try out eco-friendly cargo bikes at a pop-up event at Holy Trinity Primary School.

With pollution from traffic having such an effect on air quality as well as the ozone layer, greener modes of transport are much needed.

E-cargo bikes could be the solution with their tiny carbon footprint and convenience given that in areas of heavy traffic congestion they are significantly faster than cars and vans.

Later, there will be a Climate Tour of Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Staff will be leading a fascinating climate tour during which they will discuss the gardens, how Kew is becoming more sustainable as well as the impacts that climate change will have on the gardens and their precious living collections.

This event starts at 2pm and will involve around one mile of walking, so make sure you bring sturdy footwear. It is necessary to sign up to the website to book a ticket.
