Central Richmond faced traffic gridlock this morning following another bus incident on Richmond Bridge.

Queues of traffic lined up back from the bridge in both directions causing enormous upheaval to parent on the school run and commuters.

Separately, the A316 was extremely slow moving, delaying traffic heading into central London.

One onlooker said: "I saw multiple busses stopped on the Richmond side of the bridge, I think one or more had broken down. There were long queues. It was standstill."

By 8:55 the buses had gone but traffic was still heavy and slow-moving.

This is the second time the bridge has faced this kind of traffic in 5 days.

On Friday the bridge was closed most of the day after an accident involving the driver of a broken-down bus.

UPDATE - Transport for London said there was a minor collision involving a number 490 bus and a car. The road across the bridge was closed for around 30 minutes during the rush hour.

Tom Cunnington, TfL's Head of Buses Business Development, said: "There was a minor collision on Bridge Street this morning and thankfully no one was injured. As always we will work with Abellio, the operator, while they carry out an investigation to understand what happened."
