Flood alert issued for Thames from Putney to Teddington

A flood alert has been issued for stretches of the River Thames between Putney Bridge and Teddington Weir, with high tides expected to cause possible flooding this afternoon (Wednesday, 18 February).
The alert, issued by the Environment Agency at 7:11am, warns that flooding is possible between 2:30pm and 4:30pm.
Also, the forecast high tide at Richmond is expected to reach 4.87 metres above sea level at 3:30pm.
Areas that could be affected include Putney Embankment, Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4), Thames Bank at Mortlake, Ranelagh Drive, Friars Lane and Water Lane, Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham, and the towpath below Teddington Lock.
Flooding of properties is not currently expected the Environment Agency say.
Astronomical tide levels are rising, while river flow at Teddington Weir is steady at 270 cubic metres per second. However, flows are anticipated to begin increasing tomorrow.
The Environment Agency said it is closely monitoring the situation and has advised residents to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
The alert will be updated by 8pm this evening, or sooner if conditions change.
