Rutting season refers to the annual period of sexual excitement, aggression, and mating behaviour in certain male mammals, such as deer.

The Royal Parks, in charge of Richmond and Bushy Parks, always advise visitors to stay a minimum of 50 metres away from deer.

September to November is known as rutting season (credit: Carl Myhill).

"For your own safety, please keep at least 50 metres away from the deer, and never touch, feed or attempt to photograph them at closer range", said The Royal Parks."
