A second Tesco store has opened in Richmond town centre, despite there being another location just a five-minute walk away.

Opened on Friday, 23 October, the new Tesco Express on The Quadrant provides a convenient shopping option for local residents and commuters travelling to and from Richmond station.

The supermarket chain already has an Express store in Richmond town with its branch on 29 George Street.

The new store is open seven days a week from 6am to 11pm and features a Costa Coffee machine, food-to-go options, fresh produce and cupboard essentials, alongside bakery products and an InPost parcel locker.

Sujantha Pathmasiri, store manager at Tesco Express Richmond Station, said: "We're so excited to have opened our new store and welcome customers from the local community.

"The store features a wide range of everyday essentials, perfect for those mid-week fridge top-ups, as well as a selection of food-to-go options for customers looking for something quick and easy while on the move.

"Being located so close to the train station means we can support customers throughout their daily routines, whether they're heading to work, travelling home or picking up essentials.

"I'm proud to be leading this fantastic team and look forward to everyone into our new store."

Tesco say the new location will also support Tesco's Fruit & Veg Grants scheme, which provides funding of £500, £1,000 and up to £1,500 to local schools, charities and community organisations helping children access free fruit and vegetables and enjoy a healthy, nutritious diet.

The scheme helps local groups bring healthy eating projects to life and forms part of Tesco's wider Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, which aims to help one million children access free fruit and vegetables and build healthier habits for the future.

Local schools and community groups can apply for funding through Tesco's Fruit & Veg Grants scheme online.

The new Express store will also participate in the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food from Tesco stores to charities and community groups every day.

Since its launch in 2016, Tesco's Community Food Connection scheme has donated more than 145 million meals to charities across the UK and is run in partnership with FareShare.
