Banned driver Tasered after 60mph police chase

A disqualified driver fled the police at double the speed limit before crashing and attempting to escape on foot.

The man jumped over walls and through gardens before he was Tasered and arrested.

Police found the vehicle had been stolen.

The dramatic incident unfolded on Friday, June 19 on Upper Richmond Road.

It was reported in a post on Nextdoor by PC Richards of Richmond Police on Friday, July 10.

He wrote: "The vehicle failed to stop, and police pursued: 60mph in a 30mph limit, weaving in and out of traffic and dangerously driving on a pedestrian pavement, the suspect seemingly gave no regards to other road users.

"A police helicopter from NPAS (National Police Air Service) followed and police units disengaged.

"Watching from the sky they saw the vehicle collide with another on Putney Hill and watched the driver make off to Charterfield Avenue.

"A unit attended and in order to detain the male the officer jumped over walls and through gardens.

"A swift challenge with a Taser and the male surrendered to police.

"He was promptly searched. Car keys were recovered, and a check revealed the vehicle to be stolen in March and on false plates, and the male to be disqualified from driving.

"Space was booked in custody for one male arrested for failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, theft of motor vehicle and driving whilst disqualified."
