Storm Francis is on her way to Richmond!

Richmond could be in store for a rough couple of days as a storm sweeps the country.

Storm Francis, named by the Met Office, will bring some "very strong winds leading to disruption to travel and power supplies along with potential damage to trees".

The forecaster has warned:

  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible
  • Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some roads and bridges may close
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

The 'yellow' warning for wind in Greater London runs from 9am tomorrow (Tuesday, August 25) until the same time on Wednesday.

At present, it doesn't look as if Richmond will be hit with the strongest effects of the storm.

Winds are predicted to reach 16mph on Tuesday afternoon and the day will begin with heavy rain until 10am.

But the yellow warning means residents should "be aware" of the possibility of more extreme weather.

The Met Office said winds this strong - forecast to reach 70mph in exposed western parts of the UK - are unusual for August.

Rain is expected to be heaviest in Northern Ireland and south west Scotland where 60-90mm could fall as the storm moves from west to east.

Chief meteorologist Andy Page said: "The UK is in for another unseasonably wet and windy spell with Storm Francis arriving on Tuesday.

"There will be strong winds and heavy rain, especially in the west of the UK.

"A number of severe weather warnings have been issued and these warnings can be updated regularly so please keep up to date with the latest Met Office forecast."

Here's hoping the weather is nothing like what we experienced two weeks ago when a severe hail storm rained down on Richmond.
