PICTURES: River banks flood after 5.1 metre high tide

There have been very high tides across Richmond in recent days - and there's no sign that they're going to stop straight away.

On Sunday afternoon the paths near Richmond Bridge and at Petersham Meadows were flooded.

It was a gorgeous winter's day on Tuesday and the Thames rose up and left punters at the White Cross stranded - but thankfully they had a pint in hand.

Across the footbridge at Richmond Lock, parked cars were semi-submerged in St Margarets.

The Environment Agency issued a flood warning for today (Wednesday, December 16), predicting flooding of low-lying roads and footpaths.

Tides are forecast to be equally high tomorrow.

High tide on Thursday (December 17) occurs at 4.33pm when the river level will reach 5.1 metres.

The height of the river will begin to drop on Friday, maxing out at 4.8 metres.

This trend will continue until it reaches a high tide height of 3.8 metres on Tuesday (December 22).

These "spring" high tides are occurring because the Thames in Richmond is tidal and when there is a full moon it exerts a stronger gravitational pull, resulting in bigger tidal ranges.
