Covid on rise in all 23 neighbourhoods in Richmond

The number of residents catching coronavirus has increased in all 23 neighbourhoods across our borough.

Richmond's infection rate now stands at 600 new cases per 100,000 people - up from 351 just a week ago.

This is a record level, after 1,189 local people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past week.

The rapid increase is mirrored across London.

London is being hit particularly hard by the new strain and stands as the UK's covid blackspot by a long way.

A daily high of 41,385 new cases were recorded across the country yesterday (Monday, December 28) and covid-related hospital admission are also at a peak, surpassing the levels in April.

The map shows the infection rate and number of new cases recorded in each neighbourhood in Richmond over the seven days up to December 23.

The darker the colour on the map, the higher the rate, and large swathes of the borough are now in purple and black - the two highest grades.

We've looked at the figures and display each area in Richmond by infection rate below.

Twickenham West – 992 new cases per 100,000 people (110 cases)

Teddington Central – 899 cases per 100,000 people (66 cases)

Strawberry Hill – 866 cases per 100,000 people (54 cases)

Twickenham North – 850 cases per 100,000 people (60 cases)

Twickenham Town – 812 cases per 100,000 people (65 cases)

Twickenham Marble Hill – 680 cases per 100,000 people (50 cases)

St Margarets – 644 cases per 100,000 people (43 cases)

Teddington North – 636 cases per 100,000 people (46 cases)

Heathfield – 620 cases per 100,000 people (67 cases)

East Sheen North – 593 cases per 100,000 people (54 cases)

Richmond Park, Sheen Gate and Petersham – 584 cases per 100,000 people (42 cases)

Kew Gardens – 576 cases per 100,000 people (58 cases)

Hampton Village – 552 cases per 100,000 people (57 cases)

Nursery Lands and Hampton North – 538 cases per 100,000 people (51 cases)

Whitton – 515 cases per 100,000 people (43 cases)

Hampton Wick and Teddington East – 481 cases per 100,000 people (55 cases)

Testing

In addition to the drive-in testing centre at Twickenham Stadium and walk-in centre in Teddington, residents with symptoms can get tested at a mobile facility in Old Deer Park car park in Richmond. You can book a test here.

The main symptoms of the disease are:

a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
loss or change to your sense of smell or taste - this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
