Last November, more than 1,200 politicians and leaders from business, faith, culture and the media gathered in Westminster for the National Emergency Briefing. It was an unusual event. Leading UK scientists and experts set out, in plain language, what the breakdown of the climate and nature means for things we all depend on: our health, our food, our homes and our economy.
The briefing was then made into a 50-minute film, the People's Emergency Briefing, so that everyone could hear what Parliament heard. Communities across the country have taken it up very quickly. More than 3,500 screenings have now been held or planned across the UK, in community venues, cinemas, universities and workplaces.
On Thursday 19 November, it's Richmond's turn. Richmond Team Ministry is hosting a free screening at St Mary Magdalene Church, followed by an open panel discussion with Sarah Olney MP. The panel will talk about what the evidence means for a riverside borough that already has hotter summers, heavier rain and storm damage, and what we can do about it here.
Drinks are from 7pm and the film starts at 7.30pm. Entry is free, but seats are limited, so please book at tickettailor.com/events/richmondteamministry/2448476. The film is suitable for ages 16 and over.
