Richmond golf course faces changes following new proposal
By Cesar Medina 1st Nov 2026
A golf club in Richmond has applied to create a new pond on its course in Old Deer Park to help tackle flooding around one of its holes.
Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club has submitted plans to install the pond near the 14th hole of its golf course, with the aim of reducing flooding around the approach to the green and its bunkers.
The proposed pond would cover an area of 2,436 square metres and reach a depth of two metres.
Under the plans, four bunkers and a greenside bunker at the 14th hole would be removed, with the new pond created to the right of the approach to the green.
The approach would also be raised slightly to direct surface water away from the green towards the pond on the right, as well as a hollow on the left.
A catchment basin and drainage pipe would be installed to help the hollow on the left drain following flooding.
The application also proposes installing a pipe, provisionally measuring 300mm in diameter, to connect a shallow ditch to the right of the 15th hole's carry with the new pond.
A second 300mm pipe would link the opposite side of the pond to the existing pond at the 16th hole.
The golf course covers approximately 119.8 hectares, while the area covered by the proposed development would measure 1.275 hectares.
To application is yet to be decided. Read the plans in full here.
