Mixed media artist Laura Parker is hosting her inaugural solo show 'Mysteries' at BobCat Gallery, Putney, from 2nd - 24th October 2026.

Laura, 74, is a self-taught, London-based artist with a background in History of Art. Over the years her work has ranged from representational landscapes to expressive abstracts, and from intimate still lifes to dramatic underwater views. Recent works are predominantly multi-layered acrylic and mixed-media paintings. With such a variety of styles and subjects, Laura is bringing together a fascinating collection of artworks charting her twenty-five year career.

The natural world, and in particular the flow and movement of water, is a constant stimulus to Laura's work. At present Laura finds greater self-expression in working more abstractly, exploring what can be revealed or concealed in a piece, and creating a 'conversation' within an artwork between calm and flux, clarity and mystery.

Laura has previously exhibited in numerous group shows in London and other locations, including in Bath, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Woolverton, Southend, Beaminster, New York and New Jersey; however this is her first solo show.

Curator and Founder of BobCat Gallery, Catherine Sweet, says: "Laura uses bold colours and energetic mark making, with her compositions easily guiding the eye around her artwork. She builds up layers intuitively, and the results are vibrant and dynamic works which tug at memories just out of reach - each of Laura's works gives the individual viewer a unique sense of time and place, whether real or imagined.

It's my absolute pleasure to curate this show, bringing together just a taste of Laura's brilliant collection of work, including brand new pieces in a more abstract style. Her most recent works feature paint, collage, pen, charcoal and pencil on panel, in a process of multiple additions and subtractions that build up a rich history in each piece, and both reveal and conceal the mysteries in every one."

Laura says: "Everything I have done before has built up to where I am now - there's a thread running through all the works we've selected for this exhibition, a thread that is still leading me on.

I have learnt over the years that I have to take risks, however unnerving that may be, even sometimes apparently destroying parts of a work - I disrupt things to move forward. I delve into uncharted territory with each piece, and figure it out as I go. For me, making art is exciting, scary, frustrating, addictive and rewarding, and an utterly indispensable part of my life."

The gallery is located upstairs at Putney Exchange and open Tuesday - Saturday each week between 10.30am - 6pm, (Mondays by appointment). Laura's collection will be the spotlight presentation alongside a wider group of artists displaying their work for the month of October, and will also be part of Wandsworth Artists Open House - exceptionally, the gallery will be open on Sunday 4th and 11th October from 11am - 5pm.
