Introduction to Rag Rugging
United Response, Field Lane, Teddington TW11 9BP
Arts & Crafts
UNTIL Sunday 2nd July
Try your hand at the ancient art of rag rug making.
Using recycled fabrics, hessian and a wonderful 'rag rugger', learn the skills needed to create your own rug, cushion or wall hanging. Either bring along your own materials or use ours (or maybe a mixture of both).
We'll provide plenty of fabric but, if you have any treasured old clothes, please do bring them along. T shirts work particularly well, but you can use this age-old technique with any fabric.
In this workshop you will be introduced to the techniques of shaggy and loopy rag rugging and also taught how to cut the yarn strips, bind edges and finish your creation professionally. You'll have the choice of which technique to use to make your design and no prior experience is necessary at all.
Includes hessian and fabrics plus the use of rag ruggers, wooden gauge, dressmaking scissors, cutting mat and tools, together with lots of tea, coffee and home made cake.
Tools will be available to purchase at the end of the class if you'd like to do so.
This class will be taught by Ann and Catherine, from Handmade Workshops.
"A very enjoyable morning learning a new skill."
"I had so much fun!"
