Work is due to start on the building of two new lifts at Teddington station to provide easier step-free access between the two platforms on Station Road and Victoria Road, Nub News can reveal today.

Although a specific date on the start of works is yet to be announced, Network Rail has confirmed that enabling works on Station Road and the general site setup will begin in Spring/Summer of 2023, indicating that the project will begin shortly.

'Teddington Station Access for All' will make the popular station more accessible for disabled and elderly passengers as well as families with young children and prams, and the £3.6million project is expected to be completed by Spring 2024.

It is anticipated that most of the work will take place during daytime hours from 07.30am until 18.00pm from Monday to Friday.

According to Network Rail, there may be occasions when the work will need to take place overnight or during weekends when trains are not running.

To facilitate the construction for the lift on the Platform Two side (near the garden centre) the adjacent footpath on Station Road will need to be closed.

Network Rail also say specialist equipment used for the works is designed to minimise noise disruption in the local area but warn there may be some disturbance as well as increased traffic from delivery vehicles.

In a neighbourhood letter addressed to local residents of the station, Network Rail began by stating: "I'm writing to let you know we need to carry out essential improvement work near your property to install 2 new lifts at Teddington Station, to provide step-free access across the station and between both platforms on Station Road and Victoria Road.

"This will make the station more accessible for disabled and elderly passengers, families with young children and for the local community. This is being delivered as part of the Department for Transport's Access for All programme. The work will begin during Spring 2023 and is due to be complete by Spring 2024."

A special drop-in session will be held on April 25th from 15.30pm until 18.30pm at Teddington Station Ticket Hall on Victoria Road where residents will have the opportunity to speak to the project team and learn more about the two new lifts.

More information is available at www.networkrail.co.uk or through a 24 hour helpline 03457 114141 quoting 'Teddington Station Access for All.'
