Women's Equality Party (WEP) invites six political parties to present a two-minute agenda on 'reimagining equality' across London in pre-GLA (Greater London Assembley) election hustings today at 6pm.

South West London constituency candidates for the GLA Marchela Benedetti (Labour), Ron Mushiso (Conservative), Gareth Roberts (Lib Dem), Steve Chilcott (ReformUK), Abigail Hardy (Independent) and Chas Warlow (Green Party) will all stand in the GLA Election.

Each will be sharing their ideas and opinions on how a more equal society can benefit and improve the lives of people across London, at an online election hustings from 6pm on 24 April.

The pre-GLA election hustings organised by the Women's Equality Party (WEP) Richmond, has been dubbed a chance to 'reimagine equality', in the four key areas of housing, transport, policing and the care economy.

Katelyn Severn, WEP Richmond Branch Leader says: "Nobody in our constituency has been left unaffected by the Covid pandemic and following that, the cost of living crisis has really decimated people's livelihoods and mental wellbeing.

"Thousands of Londoners are now struggling, with poorer health, education and life outcomes in general. Of these, the poorest and most vulnerable are often women, in particular black and minority women and disabled women, and they need to be prioritised if our recovery is to succeed and our community is to thrive."

Severn adds: "The Women's Equality Party have always maintained genuine equality can and does benefit everyone, not just people in disadvantaged communities.

"And pre-election, it's a word that gets bandied about frequently by politicians without much substance.

"So we've asked six local constituency candidates to share their vision, to 'reimagine equality' across London, what it would look like, the difference it will make, and how it will benefit individuals and communities across London."

The online hustings is an opportunity to hear each candidates views on greater equality in London life and how this can be done with the powers invested in the GLA, and WEP Richmond has invited several thousand SW Constituency members and supporters to attend and submit questions, both in advance and at the event, alongside voters from societies, universities and equalities groups in the three boroughs (Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow).
