Widowed residents in Richmond upon Thames are being invited to a new social event designed to help bereaved people meet others who understand their experience.
Chapter 2 Dating, a platform created exclusively for widows and widowers, is hosting a "Widowed Speed Social" in Central London on Tuesday, 2 December 2025. The free event aims to bring together bereaved singles from across West London in a supportive, pressure-free setting.
According to the 2021 Census, 4.7% of adults in Richmond upon Thames are widowed, a higher proportion than the London average of 4.2%.
The figures are similar in neighbouring boroughs, including Hounslow (4.5%) and Ealing (4.4%).
Chapter 2 Dating was founded by Nicky Wake, who was widowed in 2020 following the death of her husband Andy after long-term medical complications.

Her experience of returning to the dating world inspired her to create a service specifically for those who have lost a partner.
The new in-person events are designed to complement the online community and offer a safe space for people to meet face-to-face.
The Widowed Speed Social will take place at Simmons Bar near Bank Station, running from 6pm to 9pm.
Attendees can take part in a series of relaxed three-minute conversations or simply mingle at their own pace. Two complimentary drinks are included.
Organisers say they are particularly keen for widowed men to attend, noting that men are often under-represented at bereavement support events.

Nicky Wake said: "After losing Andy, I eventually decided to start dating again, and I was shocked by how isolating and depressing mainstream apps felt.
"I realised there was nothing that truly supported or understood widowed people. That's when I knew I had to create Chapter 2.
"Widowhood changes everything, and it can feel incredibly isolating. This event is an opportunity to meet others who truly understand what life after loss can feel like – to share conversation, laughter, and the possibility of forming meaningful friendships or exploring new romantic connections.
"We particularly hope men will attend, as widowed men can often feel overlooked and may benefit from this supportive, understanding environment.
"I've been there myself, and I know how important it is to feel safe and supported while opening yourself up again."
Those interested in attending can register or find out more at www.chapter2dating.app or by emailing [email protected].
