Richmond Council says it is making firm progress on delivering more affordable housing across the borough, with new homes completed this year and several large schemes now under way.

The Council confirmed that 22 affordable homes have been finished in 2025, with many more in the pipeline.

Work is continuing on developments that include social rent, London Living Rent and supported living properties.

Councillor Chris Varley, Lead Member for Housing, said recent site visits showed "real, tangible progress".

"Richmond Council continues to play an active role in supporting the diverse needs of our community," he said. "Building Foundations for a Fairer Borough is all about making Richmond affordable and ensuring we have accessible housing for every stage of life."

This year, 20 affordable homes are starting on site at Mereway and Meadows Hall, while construction continues on more than 200 homes across several major locations, including:

• the former Greggs Bakery site
• the Richmond College site
• phase one of the Ham Close regeneration project

Cllr Varley said regeneration remained central to tackling rising housing need, allowing the borough to increase supply while improving the quality of existing homes.

The Council's Local Plan places strong emphasis on sustainable growth, high-quality design and social inclusivity, with a focus on increasing affordable housing delivery.

Cllr Jim Millard, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Finance, said the Council was "making full use of every available funding stream".

He commented: "This includes unlocking new opportunities with our partners, delivering affordable homes on Council-owned sites, and acquiring properties for temporary accommodation to meet the most urgent housing need."

The Council says its commitment to expanding the supply of genuinely affordable homes will help ensure local people have access to safe, stable and well-maintained housing.

Cllr Varley added: "We're proud of the progress we've made and even prouder of the difference it's making for local people. Affordable housing is about creating places where people feel safe, comfortable, and can confidently build their lives.

"The Council is determined to keep that momentum going."
