White Cross punter arrives by canoe as river banks swell

Many businesses would shut up shop if their premises flooded in such a way as the Thames did last weekend.

But not the White Cross. Its team donned Wellington boots and customers sat happily on the outdoor benches as staff waded through the water to deliver food and drinks.

The high tide even attracted a new type of punter to the pub on Richmond Riverside.

As the pub kept its gates open, in paddled a cheery canoeist and he smiled even wider when employees brought him a cold pint of Guinness.

The pub posted photos of the remarkable weekend on its Facebook page.
