OSO, Barnes
July 25-30 - Cocktail Sticks / Two in Torquay
In Cocktail Sticks, Alan Bennett reminisces about his life. He talks to his dead father as his mother yearns for a different life. The play is funny, tender and sad. This is one of the very first productions of Cocktail Sticks since its opening performance at the National Theatre in 2012.
Barnes Community Players will take it to the Edinburgh Fringe after sell-out successes in three previous years when they performed plays by Ayckbourn, Bennett and Leigh.
Two In Torquay is Alan Bennett at his best. Two people meet who have never met before. They talk about the weather, they talk about the woman, the spinster's rather miserable life, they talk about her mother, they talk of darker things.... If the woman is a spinster, if the mother is a mother, if the darker things are dark and if so dark for whom?
