Mary Wallace Theatre, Twickenham
Until April 23 – Henry IV Parts 1 and 2, from Richmond Shakespeare Society.
Moving from comedy to tragedy, an ensemble of twenty-two actors brings this exhilarating exploration of familial ties, national division, treachery and war to life across two epic parts.
Henry IV Part 1 - Henry is a troubled king, beset by guilt having deposed his predecessor, Richard II.
Now rebel lords are rallying against him led by the charismatic Hotspur, while his own son, Prince Hal, frequents taverns across London in the company of the merry but dissolute Falstaff.
As the country heads for civil war, will Hal put his riotous behaviour behind him?
Henry IV Part 2 - King Henry's health is declining, the rebels are turning on each other, and further violence threatens the war-torn nation.
In the idyllic countryside, Falstaff indulges in reminiscence and longs for the fighting to be over.
But will his 'sweet Prince Hal' return to join him in the taverns of Eastcheap, or finally face his duty as future king?
