Richmond Theatre

The classic TV comedy, The Good Life, has been reimagined for the stage and stars Rufus Hound.

The action revolves around the story of the couple who decided to give up the rat race to turn their suburban garden into a self-sufficient small holding, much to the horror of the neighbours.

The battle of wills and lifestyles between Tom and Barbara Good and their snooty neighbours Margo and Jerry was the stuff of comedy gold.

The original series came from the pens of John Esmonde and Bob Larbey, whose writing partnership was acclaimed for creating some of British sitcom's greatest classics including Ever Decreasing Circles, Please Sir! and Brush Strokes.

The stage comedy, adapted and directed by Jeremy Sams, leads the well-loved characters through uproarious adventures; some old, some new and often hilariously familiar.

This new play celebrates a time when, whatever our differences, we still managed to get on with our neighbours.

We Gather

The Brass Volcanoes, one of the capital's finest New Orleans style brass bands, will be bringing joy and rhythm to Richmond Riverside on Saturday evening.

The Brass Volcanoes play a mix of original songs unique to the band, arrangements of popular songs, Mardi Gras and jazz standards, and funk classics.

This weekend marks the final performances, workshops and experiences offered by the We Gather cultural and artistic festival.

On Thursday, events on offer on Whittaker Avenue include a Fun Kids Drama workshop from Richmond Theatre for youngsters aged 7-13.

And in the evening there will be an Immersive sonic installation experience, which involves meditation, offered by Maison Moemoea.

On Friday evening, there is live music from The Rigmarollers, whose repertoire ranges from prohibition-era jazz, blues and jug band numbers, to rousing gospel singalongs and foot-tapping zydeco grooves.

Saturday lunchtime offers a Pajaki Pom Pom installation workshop. The pajaki are beautiful traditional Polish straw, paper and pom pom chandeliers.

It is followed by a 'Drumming and Harmony Workshop' with Scritti Polliti's Tom Morley, who will activate your inner rockstar in this energising drumming workshop.

On Saturday, Dawn Ellis, a 'storyteller and mischief maker', closes the programme with a compelling story told with a live percussive soundtrack provided by a newly formed band.

Dawn's story will straddle the real and the fantastical and has been evolving throughout the five weeks of We Gather as Dawn has collected stories from events along the way.

Orange Tree Theatre

Terence Rattigan's While the Sun Shines, which is one of the most successful productions in Orange Tree history, returns to the theatre.

First performed in 1943, the rollicking comedy takes the audience through the complex liaisons of the young Earl of Harpenden and his long-standing fiancée. Complications are caused by the arrival of two rival suitors - an American airman and a Free French officer - Harpenden's prospective father-in-law and an old girlfriend.
