New data shows the rate of coronavirus in Richmond has risen considerably in the past week.

The borough had an infection rate of 19.2 new cases per 100,000 people in the population in the seven days to August 15.

The rate was 5.1 cases per 100,000 the week before - so it has risen by nearly four times in a week.

Richmond Council attributed the increase in part to "relaxation of lockdown and potentially foreign travel".

It said there were three safety measures that people should follow when they go on holiday which will ensure we don't "undo all our good work".

Press Association reports that there are 80 areas in England with a rate of more than 10 cases per 100,000 of the population.

Of these, 53 have seen increases in the past seven days, with parts of the Midlands and London reporting a concerning increase.

The list has been calculated by the PA news agency and is based on Public Health England data published on August 18 on the government's coronavirus online dashboard.
